When it arrived at Portugal in 1989, Edu Miranda's musical identification with the Portuguese culture was immediate. His mandolin, genuinely Brazilian, was enchanted with the music that he found at Portugal, doing that the "choro" and the samba that formed him in Brazil, acquired a new accent.
A brilliant combination of native Fado, Brazilian Choro, and an American Jazz vocabulary, Eduardo Miranda brings to the globe a special music of virtuosity and calculated abandon. Born in 1968 in Brazil and now in Portugal where he has lived the past twenty years, the bandolimist has teamed up with guitar synthesist Tuniko Goulart and percussionist Giovani Goulart in a trio format packed with boundless energy and notes, never betraying simple line and recognizable melody. Having been immersed himself in Choro and a fascination for Brazilian culture (he studied in Sao Paulo) his first two decades, Edu offers his impeccable picking execution and fingering finesse with a matured arranging skill that tantalizes and satisifies.
The virtuosity and versatility make him a musician very requested, working as producer, arranger and instrumentalist in several musical projects of the European musical scenery. Among the several musicians with whom already performed are: Pedro Jóia, Gilberto Gil, Martinho da Vila, Filipa Pais, Mario Laginha, Maria João, Real Company and Amina Alaoui, standing out the work that develops there are several years with the great master of the Portuguese Guitar Player, António Chainho. His first solo album, "Choro de Longe", was very well received by the European critic and he lends his name to the project with that it has been participating in shows and festivals of instrumental music in Europe, beside great names as Stanley Jordan, Jeff Berlin and Eric Sardinas.
A unique instrumental show in its mixture of Brazilian rhythms, such as chorinho, samba, baião and forró, enrichened by the maturity both musical and cultural acquired throughout hundreds of stages all over the world where they shared the space with other well-known musicians.
Virtuous and spontaneous, it is worthwhile mentioning the empathy established between musicians and audience, a fact which is quite unusual in instrumental shows.
Edu Miranda
Edu Miranda (1968) is een naam die al twintig jaar onvermijdelijk opduikt in de Portugese en Braziliaanse muziek. Hoewel discreet en te weinig opgemerkt door de media, wordt het werk van Miranda al geruime tijd gewaardeerd door grote namen in de muziek. Edu Miranda vormt samen met Hamilton de Holanda de Braziliaanse eredivisie op het gebied van de mandoline.
Miranda woont al langere tijd in Portugal. Dit verklaart dat de klanken die uit zijn instrument komen zowel doen denken aan de virtuoze choro als de melancholieke fado. Op zijn twee laatste cd’s (Fado de Longe en Fado de Longe 2) brengt Miranda prachtige melodieën in een mix van invloeden van de fado en de warme Braziliaanse ritmes. De cd’s werden goed ontvangen door het publiek en waren goed genoeg voor Platina.
Miranda laat de wereld kennismaken met een briljante combinatie van de klassieke fado, Braziliaanse choro en Amerikaanse Jazz. De mandolinespeler vormt samen met gitarist Tuniko Goulart en percussionist Giovani Goulart een trio dat grenzeloze dynamische muziek voortbrengt met herkenbare melodieën. Miranda is duidelijk een zeer bedreven muzikant. Hij heeft zich de eerste twintig jaar verdiept in de virtuoze choro en de Braziliaanse cultuur (hij studeerde in Sao Paulo). Zijn arrangementen worden dan ook op perfecte en volleerde wijze ten uitvoer gebracht, met een finesse die luisteraars compleet aan hun trekken laat komen.
Edu Miranda is een Braziliaanse mandolinespeler die blijft boeien en niet alleen muzikaal is maar ook de podiumkunst verstaat. De esthetiek van de groep samen is aangrijpend. De muzikanten hebben er duidelijk plezier in om samen muziek te maken en dit stralen zij uit tijdens hun optredens. Edu Miranda biedt een unieke instrumentale show met Braziliaanse ritmes als de chorinho, samba baião en forró. Dat Mirandu al wereldwijd honderden optredens verzorgd heeft te midden van andere beroemde musici, is een duidelijke verrijking voor de performance. De muziek is virtuoos en spontaan en brengt een bijzondere wisselwerking tot stand tussen de muzikanten en het publiek, iets dat voor een instrumentaal optreden uniek is.
